Bypassing ODBC will be more efficient for you anyway. I've just done minimal evaluation on both, and they both seem to work well. If you're trying to get to MS Access via JDBC, there are a couple of direct alternatives. (Just priced out a minimal installation at $569.25.) OpenLink provides a solution, but it's very expensive. Hopefully some eager souls out there are working on this void. Data access came in Java 2.0, as JDBC 1.0, but there were very few JDBC drivers from any source, as would be expected with any new technology but the ODBC ecosystem (itself then at only v2.0. But they don't take ownership of the JDBC-ODBC Bridge, and neither does Apple who produces Java for OS X.
They do a reasonably good job of implementing ODBC for non-Windows systems.
ODBC is now provided on OS X via the iODBC open source project. Whether your organization uses Java-based tools for reporting and analytics, or builds custom Java solutions, the CData JDBC-ODBC Bridge provides an easy way to connect with any ODBC data source. It used native Windows components, and so was not portable. The JDBC-ODBC Bridge provides JDBC access from any Java App to ODBC data sources on Windows, Linux and Mac. The JDBC-ODBC Bridge using that class was written a long time ago when ODBC was not available on the Mac. The reason you're not finding the is that it's not provided in the version of Java shipped on the Mac. java:2810) at (Component.java:587 6) at (Container.java:210 9) at (Component.jav a:4460) at (Container.jav a:2167) at (Component.java:42 86) at (Keyb oardFocusManager.java:1879) at ent(DefaultKeyboardFocusManager.java:742) at yEvent(DefaultKeyboardFocusManager.java:1007) at rtions(DefaultKeyboardFocusManager.java:879).
